Indianapolis, Indiana – The National Weather Service has extended Tornado Watch 10 to include Henry County until 9 p.m. EST Thursday, expanding the severe weather threat east of the Indianapolis metro during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Henry County — including the city of New Castle — now falls under the same watch as 24 other central and southern Indiana counties. Conditions remain favorable for tornado development and severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and brief tornadoes through 9 p.m.
Storms may rapidly intensify with little warning.
Drivers along State Road 3 and nearby stretches of Interstate 70 could encounter sudden downpours and reduced visibility before nightfall. Local utilities and emergency management officials are monitoring for potential power outages if stronger cells move through New Castle.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items and be ready to move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor if a tornado warning is issued.
Additional storms may continue eastward through the region before weakening later this evening. Tornado Watch 10 remains in effect for Henry County and previously listed counties until 9 p.m. EST Thursday.
