Boonville, New York – Mixed precipitation will begin around 7 a.m. Friday in Northern Oneida County, creating slick road conditions that will last through 7 a.m. EST Saturday and impact both the morning and evening commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. Snow accumulations may reach up to 3 inches, with ice totals around 0.20 inches.
Ice will create hazardous travel conditions.
Route 12 and secondary roads near Boonville could become snow-covered and icy as freezing rain mixes with accumulating snow. Bridges and untreated surfaces will be especially slick, particularly late Friday afternoon and again overnight as temperatures remain near freezing.
Even minor ice buildup can cause spinouts.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and check 511NY for updated road conditions before heading out. Prepare for isolated power interruptions if ice accumulates on tree limbs and power lines.
