Copper Harbor, Michigan – Heavy snow will begin around 4 a.m. Friday in Keweenaw County, creating hazardous road conditions before the morning commute and lasting through early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Friday. Snow accumulations will range from 4 to 7 inches, with a brief period of freezing rain possible and a light glaze of ice developing on untreated surfaces.

Road conditions will deteriorate before sunrise.

Heavy, wet snow is expected across Copper Harbor and surrounding communities, reducing visibility and increasing stopping distances on U.S. Highway 41. Even a thin glaze of ice could create slick bridges and elevated roadways during the morning commute. The weight of wet snow combined with light icing may also trigger isolated power outages.

Both the morning and evening commutes will be affected.

Residents should delay nonessential travel and keep emergency supplies in vehicles, including food, water, and a flashlight. Prepare now for potential power disruptions.

Snow will taper toward Friday evening, but colder air Friday night may refreeze slush on area roads. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST Friday.
