Big Bear Lake, California – Snow will continue piling up across the San Bernardino Mountains this evening, with wind gusts up to 65 mph creating near-whiteout conditions before 9 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. PST Friday for the San Bernardino County Mountains. Additional snowfall of up to 11 inches is expected, while powerful winds will whip snow across roadways and reduce visibility dramatically.

Communities including Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, Lake Arrowhead, Crestline, Running Springs and Wrightwood sit in the core impact zone. State Routes 18 and 330, along with Highway 38, could become snow-packed and hazardous as bands of heavy snow move through this evening. Blowing snow may make it difficult to see more than a few hundred feet at times, especially along exposed ridgelines.

Strong winds may snap tree limbs and trigger isolated power outages. Anyone who must travel should carry emergency supplies, including food, water and a flashlight, and check road conditions by dialing 511 before departure.

Snow showers will taper overnight, but gusty winds will continue to create drifting and dangerous travel into early Friday morning.
