Las Vegas, Nevada – Wind gusts up to 55 mph will sweep across the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding deserts beginning at 4 p.m. PST today, creating hazardous travel through the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 4 p.m. PST this afternoon until 4 a.m. PST Friday for southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and parts of eastern California. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph regionwide. Western and northwest portions of the Las Vegas Valley could see gusts near 55 mph.
Interstate 15 between Primm and Mesquite, U.S. 95 near Boulder City and exposed desert highways across the Mojave Desert may experience strong crosswinds. In California’s Morongo Basin and Western Mojave Desert, including Barstow and Twentynine Palms, gusts between 40 and 45 mph will continue into early Friday morning.
Blowing dust is possible in open desert areas, reducing visibility at times. Tree limbs could be blown down, and isolated power outages cannot be ruled out.
Residents should secure patio furniture and loose outdoor objects before winds increase late this afternoon. Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution through early Friday morning.
