Cleveland, Ohio – Wind gusts up to 50 mph will ramp up quickly after sunrise Friday, creating hazardous crosswinds along Lake Erie and across much of northern Ohio through early evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Friday for northwest, north central and northeast Ohio. West-southwest winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph, with peak gusts reaching 50 mph during the afternoon.
Cities including Cleveland, Toledo, Lorain, Sandusky, Elyria, Mansfield and Findlay are all within the advisory area. High-profile vehicles traveling along Interstate 90, Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike could encounter strong crosswinds, especially on exposed stretches and bridges. Communities along the Lake Erie shoreline, including Avon Lake, Mentor and Port Clinton, may experience the strongest gusts.
Tree limbs could be blown down, and isolated power outages are possible if gusts reach peak strength. Residents should secure outdoor furniture, trash bins and other loose items before winds intensify Friday morning.
Winds are expected to gradually diminish after sunset Friday, but the advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST.
