West Texas Weather Alert: 55 MPH Wind Gusts to Hit Lubbock Area From Noon to 5 PM Friday

Lubbock, Texas – Powerful wind gusts up to 55 mph will sweep across the South Plains by noon Friday, creating hazardous crosswinds on major highways and blowing around unsecured objects.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. CST today for Crosby and Floyd counties, as well as much of the central South Plains including Lubbock, Hale and Hockley counties. West to northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph are producing gusts up to 50 mph Thursday afternoon.

A second Wind Advisory takes effect from noon to 5 p.m. Friday for a broader area including Lubbock, Plainview, Levelland, Brownfield, Denver City and Tahoka. Southwest to west winds will increase to 35 to 40 mph with gusts reaching 55 mph.

High-profile vehicles traveling along U.S. 84, U.S. 62 and Interstate 27 may encounter difficult driving conditions, especially on north-to-south roadways. Loose outdoor items such as trash bins and patio furniture could become airborne.

Residents should secure lightweight objects and use caution if traveling, particularly during peak wind speeds Friday afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if wind speeds trend higher.
