Detroit, Michigan – Loose outdoor items could be tossed and scattered by late Friday morning as wind gusts ramp up to 45 mph across Southeast Michigan, raising the risk of isolated power outages before sunset.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST Friday for Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Monroe, Lenawee, Livingston, Lapeer, Genesee and Shiawassee counties. Southwest winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph, with peak gusts reaching 45 mph during the afternoon.

The strongest gusts are expected between noon and early evening, impacting travel on I-94, I-75 and US-23, especially for high-profile vehicles. In Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint and Pontiac, unsecured trash bins and lightweight decorations could be blown into roadways. Tree limbs may snap under repeated gusts, leading to spotty outages.

Drivers should keep both hands on the wheel and allow extra space when passing trucks. Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, charge electronic devices and prepare for brief power interruptions.

Winds ease after 9 p.m. Friday, but utility crews may continue responding to scattered damage into the night.
