Kankakee, Illinois – A 1600 block resident was charged after an alleged armed robbery at a beauty supply store Monday evening.

According to the Kankakee Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, to Tresendes Beauty Supply, 1475 E. Court St., after reports that two men wearing masks entered the store displaying handguns and demanded money from the cash register.

Police said the suspects allegedly obtained an undisclosed amount of currency before fleeing on foot in separate directions.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified clothing descriptions linked to one of the suspects. A K-9 unit tracked a scent to a residence in the 500 block of North Cottage Avenue. Later that evening, the Kankakee County Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at the home.

Several individuals were transported to the Kankakee Police Department for interviews. On Wednesday, Feb. 18, agents with the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group detained Thomas, 38, of Kankakee, in the 1600 block of Cedar Street.

Thomas was formally charged with armed robbery and transported to the Jerome Combs Detention Center, according to police.
