California – Small hail is bouncing off rooftops in Eureka this morning, and roads across Del Norte and northern Humboldt counties are turning slick as temperatures hover in the upper 30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. for coastal Del Norte and northern Humboldt County. Scattered to numerous hail showers are expected through late morning. Even minor hail accumulation can create extremely slippery conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Drivers along U.S. Highway 101 through Eureka, Arcata, and McKinleyville should slow down immediately. Hail can compact quickly and mimic black ice. Elevated roadways are most vulnerable. Allow extra stopping distance and avoid sudden braking.

Showers continue through midday with highs near 47 degrees. Skies gradually become less intense later, but another round of scattered showers lingers into tonight. Lows dip near 32 degrees. If wet pavement remains, patchy icy spots could develop toward sunrise, a classic February flash-freeze setup.

Friday trends slightly drier with highs around 50 degrees and only spotty showers. The weekend turns wetter again. Rain increases Saturday with gusty winds, and steadier rain arrives Saturday night into Sunday. Highs reach the mid-50s by Sunday afternoon.

Early next week stays damp but milder. Temperatures hold in the mid-50s, and longer-range signals point toward gradual warming into late February, hinting at early spring vibes along the North Coast.
