Wisconsin – A quiet start in La Crosse won’t last, as light snow and pockets of freezing drizzle move in later today and tonight.

Clouds thicken through the afternoon with highs near 42 degrees. A brief rain shower is possible late in the day. As temperatures fall toward 27 tonight, rain transitions to snow. Some freezing drizzle may mix in at times.

That mix matters. Even light snow can coat untreated roads quickly when temperatures dip below freezing. Bridges and overpasses along U.S. 14 and Highway 53 could turn slick first. Plan extra time if traveling after sunset.

Snow amounts look minimal overall, generally under an inch. Still, forecasters caution that localized slick spots may develop into early Friday. Visibility could briefly dip in steadier bursts.

Friday stays mostly cloudy with highs near 34 and a lingering chance of snow. Roads should improve by afternoon as precipitation tapers.

Saturday brings partial sunshine and a high near 31. Saturday night turns colder, falling to 17, with a slight snow chance. Sunday stays brisk with highs around 26 and northwest winds gusting near 20 mph.

By Monday, sunshine returns with a high near 28. Temperatures gradually climb into the 30s Tuesday and may reach the lower 40s by midweek. Longer-range trends hint at a broader warming stretch late next week, offering early Spring Warmth after this mid-February chill.

This time of year, melting by day and refreezing at night can create flash freezing. Wet pavement can glaze over quickly.
