Kentucky – Thick fog clings to the Ohio River this morning, and the air feels heavy at 56 degrees. But the real Weather Alert builds by afternoon, when strong to severe thunderstorms could sweep into the Louisville metro.
Scattered showers develop first, then storms become more likely after mid-afternoon. Highs climb to near 71 degrees, adding fuel to the atmosphere. The National Weather Service warns that storms may produce damaging winds, large hail, and even a brief tornado. Southern Indiana carries the greatest severe risk, but central Kentucky remains under a conditional threat.
Storms will race east-northeast at 30 to 40 mph. Conditions may deteriorate quickly after 4 p.m. Keep phones charged and weather alerts on. If you travel I-64, I-65, or I-71 late today, expect bursts of heavy rain and reduced visibility.
Showers linger into tonight, with storms possible before daybreak. Lows fall to around 46 degrees. Winds could gust near 20 mph, and brief downpours may pond water on roads.
Sunshine returns Friday with a high near 54. The air turns cooler and drier heading into Saturday, with highs near 52 and only a slight shower chance Saturday night. Sunday looks partly sunny but colder, with highs near 39 and lows dipping into the 20s.
That chill raises a late-February reminder. Wet pavement from earlier rain can refreeze during cold mornings, creating patchy slick spots. Watch for “flash freezing” on bridges and overpasses.
Early next week stays cool, with highs in the 30s and 40s through Monday and Tuesday. By midweek and into the 6–10 day window, gradual warming hints at early spring warmth building back into Kentucky.
Five-Day Outlook – Louisville, KY:
Friday: Sunny, 54.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, 52.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, 43.
