Albany, NY – Roads across Northern Warren County could turn snow-covered and icy by midday Friday as a messy mix of heavy snow and freezing rain moves into the southern Adirondacks.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday morning for Northern Warren County, including Warrensburg, North Creek, Bolton Landing, Johnsburg and Hague. Forecasters say more than 7 inches of snow is possible, along with a light glaze of ice during a brief transition to freezing rain Friday afternoon.

Precipitation is expected to begin as wet snow Friday morning before shifting to a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain and snow during the afternoon. As temperatures fluctuate near freezing, untreated roads and elevated surfaces could ice over quickly. By Friday evening, colder air returns and changes precipitation back to all snow, with steadier accumulation overnight.

Higher elevations near North River and Johnsburg may see the greatest totals, while lower elevations could experience more mixing and variable accumulation depending on how quickly warmer air arrives.

Drivers should expect reduced visibility during heavier bursts and slippery stretches on Route 28 and other mountain corridors. Officials urge residents to slow down, allow extra braking distance and use caution on stairs and sidewalks where a thin glaze could develop.

Snow tapers early Saturday, but icy patches may linger into the morning. Additional updates or upgraded warnings are possible as track and temperature details become clearer.
