Pendleton, Ore. – Slick, snow-covered roads are creating hazardous travel across the Blue Mountains this morning, and conditions will remain dangerous through 3 p.m. Wednesday as more snow piles up.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon and the Northwest Blue Mountains in Washington. Up to 3 additional inches of snow are expected by midafternoon, impacting higher elevations near Ski Bluewood Resort, Meacham and Tollgate.
Mountain routes, including stretches of Interstate 84 near Meacham and Highway 204 toward Tollgate, are turning slick as snow continues to fall. Drivers could encounter reduced traction on steep grades and shaded curves, increasing the risk of spinouts. Gusty conditions may also bring down tree limbs or power lines in exposed areas.
Officials urge travelers to delay non-essential trips. If travel is unavoidable, carry chains, extra blankets, water and a flashlight. Check road conditions before leaving and watch for rapidly changing visibility at higher elevations.
Snow will gradually taper later this afternoon, but icy spots may persist into the evening as temperatures remain cold. Additional updates will follow if conditions worsen.
