Green Bay, WI – Heavy snow is rapidly turning highways across northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s southern Upper Peninsula into slick, snow-covered stretches Wednesday morning, with several inches falling in just a few hours near the state line.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, 3 to 4 inches of snow has fallen from Vilas County east into northern Marinette County, much of it within a one- to three-hour burst early Wednesday. The same band is extending into Dickinson, Iron and Menominee counties in Michigan. Roads are snow covered and very slippery along US-51 near Eagle River, US-45 through Conover, US-141 north of Crivitz and across the border on US-2 and US-41 near Iron Mountain and Menominee.

WisDOT and MDOT traffic cameras show reduced visibility and slow-moving vehicles on major corridors, including I-41 south of Green Bay and M-95 in Dickinson County. Secondary roads, ramps and untreated bridges are icing over first, increasing the risk of spinouts during the morning commute.

Drivers across both states should slow down, leave extra stopping distance and avoid unnecessary travel in the hardest-hit areas. Keep headlights on and give plow crews room to operate.

Snow will continue through late morning before tapering from west to east, but slick spots may linger into the afternoon. Additional advisories remain possible if heavier bands redevelop along the border.
