Reno, Nevada – Slick roads and accumulating snow will impact the Reno-Carson City-Minden corridor beginning at 4 a.m. Thursday as a renewed round of snow spreads across western Nevada and the eastern Sierra.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. PST Thursday for the greater Reno area, including Sparks, Verdi, Gardnerville and Virginia City. Valley floors could see up to 3 inches of snow, while foothill communities above 5,000 feet may receive up to 6 inches. Wind-prone stretches of U.S. 395 and I-580 could experience gusts up to 30 mph, reducing visibility during heavier bursts.

In the Greater Lake Tahoe area and Mono County, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a Winter Weather Advisory through 10 p.m. Thursday. Additional snow today may add up to 4 inches along the Sierra crest, with advisory totals reaching 6 to 10 inches around the lake and up to 18 inches at the highest elevations. Mammoth Lakes and areas west of Highway 395 could see 6 to 8 inches, with up to a foot along the crest.

Chain controls and slow travel are likely along I-80, U.S. 50 and U.S. 395. Drivers should allow extra time, carry emergency supplies and check 511 for real-time road updates. Additional advisories could be extended if snow showers redevelop late Thursday.
