San Diego, California – Snow-covered mountain roads and wind gusts up to 75 mph are creating dangerous driving conditions right now across the San Diego County Mountains, where wet snow continues through Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. PST Thursday for elevations including Julian and Pine Valley. An additional 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected through Wednesday below 5,500 feet, with another 1 to 3 inches possible Thursday. Strong southwest winds will peak Wednesday, gusting between 50 and 60 mph, with isolated gusts up to 75 mph along exposed ridgelines.

The combination of wet snow and high winds may bring down tree limbs and create scattered power outages. Mountain routes such as State Route 78 and Interstate 8 near Pine Valley could see slick pavement, reduced visibility and possible chain controls. Both the Wednesday morning and evening commutes may be affected as snow continues to accumulate.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra travel time and check California 511 for the latest road conditions. The advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Thursday, and additional updates are possible if snowfall rates increase.
