Glasgow, Montana – Visibility has dropped below a quarter mile across northeast Montana early Wednesday as 45 mph wind gusts whip fresh and drifting snow into blinding whiteouts through late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 p.m. MST Wednesday for Daniels, Sheridan, and both Western and Eastern Roosevelt counties. Communities including Scobey, Plentywood, Wolf Point, Poplar, Medicine Lake, and Culbertson are seeing additional snowfall up to 2 inches, but the strongest impact is coming from powerful winds driving widespread blowing snow.
Open stretches of U.S. Highway 2 and Montana Highway 13 are especially vulnerable to ground blizzards, where falling and drifting snow is pushing visibility below one-quarter mile. The Wednesday morning commute has already been affected, and road conditions remain slick and snow covered. Gusty winds may also snap small tree branches and cause isolated power interruptions.
Officials urge residents to avoid all non-emergency travel. If travel cannot be postponed, carry a winter survival kit and check the latest road conditions by dialing 511. The warning remains active until 5 p.m., and additional advisories could follow if winds persist into the evening hours.
