Michigan’s Lake Superior shoreline is fading behind thick, wind-driven snow this morning in Marquette. Snow falls steadily, and visibility drops below a mile at times. Temperatures hover near 30 degrees, but gusts up to 40 mph drive a biting wind chill in the teens.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. this evening for Marquette and Baraga Counties. Heavy mixed precipitation continues, with total snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches expected. Higher terrain in northern Marquette County could see up to 10 inches. A light glaze of ice is also possible.

Travel will be very difficult, especially along US-41 and M-28. Blowing snow significantly reduces visibility. Bridges and overpasses are slick. Plan extra time if you must head out today. Conditions may deteriorate quickly during heavier bursts.

Snow continues through the afternoon before gradually tapering tonight. Additional accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is possible before winds ease slightly. As temperatures dip into the upper 20s, untreated surfaces may refreeze. Flash freezing is common this time of year when slushy roads harden after sunset.

Thursday brings lingering snow showers early, then a mix of rain and snow with highs near 37. Another wintry system arrives late Thursday night into Friday. Snow becomes likely again Friday with highs in the low 30s.

The weekend stays locked in Winter mode, with highs in the upper 20s and more snow shower chances into Saturday. Early next week remains cold, but long-range trends hint at moderating temperatures and subtle signs of spring warmth building toward the end of the month.
