Michigan roads glisten with a thin sheen of moisture as light freezing rain brushes parts of the Grand Rapids area this morning. Elevated surfaces, especially bridges and overpasses on US-131 and I-196, could turn slick where temperatures hover near freezing. Patchy fog is reducing visibility in spots, adding another layer of caution for drivers.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, freezing rain is possible early before temperatures rise above 32 degrees. Any icy spots should improve by midmorning as readings climb. Showers continue through the day with highs reaching 57 degrees, unusually warm for mid-February. Thunderstorms are also possible, though severe weather risk remains low.
Rain chances linger into Thursday, with highs near 54 and additional showers likely Thursday night. By Friday, colder air pushes in. Rain may mix with or change to snow before 1 p.m., though little accumulation is expected during the day. Highs drop to 45.
Saturday stays mostly cloudy with highs near 37. Snow chances increase Saturday night into Sunday, when highs settle into the mid-30s. Even light snow could create slick roads if temperatures fall into the 20s. This is classic flash-freeze season in West Michigan, where melting moisture refreezes quickly after sunset.
Meanwhile, rivers are rising as snow and ice melt. Ice movement along the Grand River could lead to localized ice jams. Residents near Comstock Park and Robinson Township should monitor water levels closely.
Early next week turns colder, then the 6–10 day outlook signals above-normal temperatures returning. Spring warmth may gradually edge back into Michigan by late next week.
