Minnesota – Wet pavement glistens across the Twin Cities this morning, but the mood is shifting fast. Light rain and mist are giving way to colder air, and flakes are poised to take over by afternoon.

Temperatures hover in the low 40s now, but they will fall into the mid-30s by midafternoon. Rain changes to snow before noon, and a localized band is expected to set up along and south of I-94. That band could drop 2 to 4 inches in spots.

Winds increase from the west at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Blowing snow may reduce visibility, especially in western Minnesota. Plan extra time if traveling later today. Slushy roads could turn slick quickly as temperatures drop.

Snow continues into the evening before tapering. Lows dip near 30 tonight, with additional light accumulation possible. Flash freezing becomes a concern after sunset where wet roads refreeze.

Thursday stays mostly cloudy with a high near 38. Another round of accumulating snow is possible Thursday night into Friday, mainly southeast of the metro. Friday remains colder with highs near 29 and a chance of lingering snow.

Saturday brings partial sunshine but only a high near 25. Sunday stays chilly, with highs in the low 20s and lows dipping into the single digits. President’s Day week starts bright but cold, then moderates slightly into the mid-30s by Tuesday. Longer-range signals hint at gradual warming late next week, though winter still holds firm for now.

Keep boots and winter gear ready. Conditions may deteriorate quickly this afternoon.
