Burlington, Vermont – Snow is set to return by late Friday afternoon, with the highest impact expected along Interstate 89 and U.S. Route 7 during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, quiet weather will dominate through Thursday, with highs ranging from the upper 20s to near 40 degrees across northern Vermont and northern New York. Lows will dip into the single digits and teens at night. Snow chances increase sharply Friday afternoon and evening, with an 80 to 100 percent chance of precipitation during peak travel hours.

Roadways including I-89 from Burlington to Montpelier, U.S. Route 7 through Chittenden and Rutland counties, and I-87 in northeastern New York could become snow-covered as steady snowfall develops. While exact totals remain uncertain, several inches of accumulation are possible by early Saturday, especially in higher elevations of the Green Mountains.
