Portland, Oregon – Heavy snow is stacking up across the Oregon and Washington Cascades, with mountain passes turning snow-covered and hazardous through 4 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the North Oregon Cascades, Cascades of Marion and Linn counties, Cascades of Lane County and the South Washington Cascades. An additional 4 to 10 inches of snow is expected through Wednesday night, followed by another 2 to 4 inches from Thursday morning through Thursday night.

Government Camp, Santiam Pass, Willamette Pass and McKenzie Pass are likely to see steady accumulation, while higher terrain near Bennett Pass, Tombstone Summit and Indian Heaven Wilderness may pick up the heaviest totals. Interstate 84 near Larch Mountain and Highway 26 toward Government Camp could become snow-packed, especially during overnight hours.

Snow levels remain near 1,500 feet, keeping foothill communities impacted as well. Drivers should carry tire chains, slow down on mountain highways and check TripCheck.com or WSDOT’s real-time travel maps before departing.

Snow showers will continue in waves through Thursday night, with slick roads lingering into early Friday. Additional advisories remain possible if heavier bands develop over the higher peaks.
