Albany, New York – Freezing rain and wet snow will spread across the mid-Hudson Valley and southern Berkshires by noon Wednesday, creating slick roads ahead of the evening commute and lasting into early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon to 4 a.m. EST Thursday for southern Berkshire County in Massachusetts and Greene, Columbia and western Ulster counties in New York. Snow totals up to 2 inches are expected, along with ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch.

Rain may briefly mix with freezing rain this afternoon before changing to snow or a wintry mix tonight. Even a light glaze can make bridges and overpasses treacherous, particularly in higher terrain around Windham, Hunter and Tannersville. Communities including Hudson, Catskill, Ellenville and Great Barrington could see icy patches develop after sunset.

Roads may become slippery quickly once temperatures fall. Drivers should reduce speed, leave extra stopping distance and plan for delays during the evening commute. Sidewalks and untreated parking lots may also turn slick.

Precipitation should taper before daybreak Thursday, though isolated icy spots could linger into the early morning hours. Additional advisories remain possible if icing becomes more widespread.
