Spokane, Washington – Snow will continue to blanket Idaho’s Central Panhandle Mountains through Wednesday evening, coating mountain passes and slowing travel along Interstate 90.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. PST Wednesday for the Central Panhandle Mountains. Snow totals between 2 and 5 inches are expected, with narrow bands of heavier snow creating sharp differences in accumulation over short distances.

Communities including Kellogg, Wallace, Mullan, Pinehurst and St. Maries will see periods of steady snowfall. Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Pass and Dobson Pass are likely to become snow-covered, especially during bursts of moderate snow. Drivers on I-90 may encounter changing visibility and slick pavement, particularly during the Wednesday morning commute and again later in the day.

Even lighter totals can create hazardous conditions on bridges and elevated roadways. Motorists should reduce speed, increase following distance and call 511 for updated Idaho road conditions before traveling.

Snow is expected to taper gradually Wednesday night, but slick spots may persist in higher elevations beyond 10 p.m. Additional advisories could be issued if snowfall rates increase.
