Riverton, Wyoming – Snow will begin impacting roads around Casper by 5 p.m. Wednesday, with steady overnight accumulation creating slick conditions through the Thursday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. MST Thursday for Natrona County lower elevations, Casper Mountain, and the Green Mountains and Rattlesnake Range. Forecasters expect 3 to 5 inches of snow in lower elevations, with 5 to 8 inches likely on Casper Mountain. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, causing areas of blowing snow.

The steadiest snowfall is expected Wednesday night, potentially covering Interstate 25 through Casper, Wyoming Highway 220 near Jeffrey City, and higher routes over Casper Mountain. Reduced visibility and snow-packed pavement could slow both the evening and early Thursday commute.

Bridges and overpasses may ice quickly as temperatures drop. Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance and allow extra travel time. WYDOT officials urge motorists to check updated road conditions at wyoroad.info before heading out.

Snow should taper late Thursday morning, but slick spots may linger beyond 11 a.m. Additional advisories could be issued if bands of heavier snow redevelop overnight.
