Spokane, Washington – Snow is falling across parts of the Upper Columbia Basin overnight, coating highways near Ritzville and Harrington ahead of the Wednesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. PST Wednesday for the Upper Columbia Basin. Forecasters expect up to 2 inches of accumulation, though narrow bands of moderate to heavy snow could create sharp differences in totals over short distances.
Ritzville and Harrington are most likely to see bursts of steadier snowfall before daybreak. Interstate 90 and State Route 261 may turn snow-covered in spots, especially where heavier bands develop. Visibility could briefly drop as snow intensity increases.
Even minor accumulations can create slick conditions on bridges and overpasses. Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance and allow extra time for the morning commute. Conditions can change quickly within a few miles due to banded snowfall.
Snow should taper by midmorning, with improving travel after 10 a.m. Motorists can check updated road conditions through the Washington State Department of Transportation website before heading out.
