Duluth, Minnesota – Snow and a light glaze of ice will create hazardous driving conditions across far northern Wisconsin through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon CST Thursday for Douglas and Bayfield counties, including Superior, Bayfield and Washburn. Northern parts of the counties could see 5 to 8 inches of snow, while southern areas receive 2 to 4 inches. A light glaze of ice is expected, especially overnight. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

The heaviest snowfall in far northern Bayfield and Douglas counties is expected late tonight through midday Wednesday. Slick conditions are likely on U.S. Highway 2, Wisconsin Highway 13 and roads near the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Tribal lands of the Red Cliff Band are also under the warning.

Drivers should slow down and allow extra travel time during both the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Check 511wi.gov for updated road conditions before heading out. Snow and gusty winds will gradually diminish by midday Thursday, but icy patches may linger into the afternoon.
