Flagstaff, Arizona – Snow-covered highways and wind gusts up to 65 mph could make travel treacherous across the Mogollon Rim and Kaibab Plateau through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday for the Kaibab Plateau and both the western and eastern Mogollon Rim. Snow totals between 4 and 10 inches are expected, with Munds Park and Flagstaff forecast to see 6 to 10 inches. Jacob Lake, Williams and Forest Lakes could receive 5 to 8 inches. Blowing snow may sharply reduce visibility, especially along Interstate 40, Interstate 17 and Highway 89A.

Bridges and overpasses are likely to become slick during the morning and evening commutes. Strong winds may also down tree limbs and power lines in exposed areas.

A Winter Storm Watch takes effect Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, when an additional 3 to 9 inches of snow is possible with wind gusts up to 45 mph.

Officials urge drivers to delay travel if possible and check az511.gov for closures. Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday night, with additional updates expected as the next system approaches.
