Virginia – Snow chances will remain on the lighter side across the Commonwealth through Feb 23-27, but brief bursts could still create slick travel during peak commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across the Mid-Atlantic are expected to run near seasonal averages during the Feb 23-27 period, while precipitation probabilities trend modestly above normal. Unlike areas farther north and west, Virginia sits on the southern edge of the more organized snow bands, limiting the risk for widespread heavy accumulation.

Communities along the I-81 corridor, including Roanoke and Winchester, may see periodic light snow showers, especially during overnight and early morning hours when road temperatures dip below freezing. Richmond and areas along I-95 could experience passing snow or mixed precipitation, mainly resulting in spotty coatings on bridges and overpasses. In far southwest Virginia and higher elevations, slightly steadier snow is possible but still lighter than impacts expected in neighboring states.

VDOT crews may treat elevated roadways if needed. Drivers should allow extra travel time during active snow showers and remain alert for slick patches.

Additional updates may follow as minor winter impacts continue through Feb 23-27.
