New Jersey – Drivers across the Garden State could run into slick stretches during the morning commute as light snow chances increase through the final days of February.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across the Northeast are expected to hold near seasonal averages from Sunday through Thursday, while precipitation odds lean above normal. With enough cold air in place, especially across northern New Jersey, that setup supports periodic snow instead of steady rain.
Newark, Paterson and communities along I-80 and I-287 may see light but steady snow showers at times, briefly coating untreated roads and overpasses. Trenton and areas along I-295 could experience passing snow bursts during early morning hours when pavement temperatures dip near freezing. Along the Jersey Shore, including Toms River and Atlantic City, precipitation may mix at times, but quick snow showers could still reduce visibility along the Garden State Parkway.
New Jersey DOT crews may treat bridges and elevated roadways overnight. Motorists should slow down, increase following distance and allow extra time during active snow bands.
Additional updates may follow as winter conditions persist across New Jersey through Thursday.
