Bangor, ME – Patchy freezing drizzle could create slick stretches on I-95 and I-395 before sunrise Wednesday, with temperatures hovering in the mid-20s to near 28 degrees overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a few snow showers are possible across northern Maine tonight, while the Bangor region faces the risk of light freezing drizzle. Little, if any, snow or ice accumulation is expected, but even a light glaze could make untreated bridges and overpasses slippery through 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Overnight lows will dip into the upper teens north of Millinocket and low 20s around Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft and Ellsworth. Road surfaces that remain damp could refreeze quickly. Drivers along I-95 from Old Town to Bangor and south toward Waterville should reduce speed and allow extra braking distance during the early morning commute.
Highs Wednesday rebound into the low to mid-30s, including near 33 degrees in Bangor and Bar Harbor. Any lingering slick spots should improve by late morning as temperatures rise above freezing.
Another round of snow is possible Friday night into Saturday afternoon, with the best chance across central Maine, including the Bangor region and Downeast communities along US-1. While totals remain uncertain, even a couple inches could impact weekend travel.
Forecasters are also monitoring the potential for a stronger coastal storm late Sunday into Monday. Confidence remains low, but travel impacts could become significant if that system tracks close to the coast. Residents planning travel should monitor updates through the end of the week.
