Memphis, Tennessee – The National Weather Service says no major changes have been made to Thursday’s severe weather outlook, but isolated strong storms remain possible across portions of West and Middle Tennessee.

A Level 1 (Marginal) severe risk has been outlined mainly north of a line from Dyersburg to Nashville for Thursday afternoon and early evening. This includes areas near Interstate 40, Interstate 155, Highway 51, and Interstate 69. While coverage is expected to remain limited, forecasters say one or two storms could briefly become severe.

The overall probability of severe weather is low, around 5 percent, but any storm that strengthens could produce damaging wind gusts and large hail. Storm motion is expected to be from southwest to northeast, meaning communities along and north of I-40 should stay weather aware through the afternoon commute period.

Cities including Union City, Dyersburg, Jackson, Clarksville, and Nashville fall within the outlined risk zone. Memphis sits just south of the primary risk area, though isolated thunder cannot be completely ruled out.

At this time, tornado potential appears very limited, but forecasters note it cannot be entirely dismissed if a stronger storm develops. The main focus remains on gusty straight-line winds and pockets of hail.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts throughout Thursday and ensure they have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially during the late afternoon and early evening hours. While this is not expected to be a widespread severe outbreak, even isolated storms can cause localized impacts along major roadways and populated areas.
