Glasgow, MT – Blizzard conditions are expected to make travel nearly impossible along US-2 and MT-13 through 5 p.m. Wednesday, with wind gusts up to 60 mph driving snow across northeast Montana.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for areas including Glasgow, Wolf Point, Scobey and Opheim through late Wednesday afternoon. Snow, heavy at times, will continue spreading across the region this evening before gradually tapering overnight into Wednesday. Most locations are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches, but localized totals of 3 to 5 inches are possible near the Canadian border east of Opheim.

Northwest winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph, with gusts between 45 and 60 mph. The combination of fresh snowfall and strong winds will reduce visibility to as low as one-quarter mile at times. Snow drifts will build quickly on east-west roadways such as US-2, creating sudden whiteout conditions.

Farther south toward Circle, Jordan and Glendive, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect where lighter snow is expected. Even there, blowing snow could cover roads and make nighttime hazards difficult to see.

Travel is strongly discouraged until winds ease. If you must travel, carry a winter survival kit and check 511 for updated road conditions. Winds will gradually diminish Wednesday afternoon, but drifting snow may continue to impact open highways into the evening.
