Los Angeles, CA – Drivers along Highway 14 and in the Antelope Valley foothills could face slick pavement and sudden whiteout conditions beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday as snow and 70 mph wind gusts move into the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 9 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Friday for the Western San Gabriel Mountains, Highway 14 Corridor and the Antelope Valley foothills. Snow totals of 1 to 4 inches are expected between 3,500 and 4,500 feet, with 4 to 8 inches above 4,500 feet. Wind gusts could reach 60 to 70 mph this afternoon through late tonight, then redevelop late Thursday into early Friday.
Communities including Acton, Pearblossom, Llano, Elizabeth Lake and areas near Lake Palmdale may see accumulating snow on elevated roadways. Strong crosswinds along Highway 14 could make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles, especially near Soledad Pass and Mill Creek.
Blowing snow may reduce visibility and falling limbs could block secondary roads. Drivers should delay non-essential mountain travel, secure loose outdoor items and check Caltrans or dial 511 for real-time road updates. Additional restrictions are possible before the Wednesday morning commute as conditions deteriorate.
