Albany, NY – Snow will blanket much of eastern New York by late Wednesday afternoon, creating slick roads and reduced visibility across the Capital Region and into the western New England hills before tapering off early Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday for portions of eastern New York and adjacent western New England. Forecasters expect 2 to 6 inches of snow across the advisory area, with the heaviest totals centered on Albany, Bennington, Glens Falls and surrounding higher terrain. Light freezing rain or sleet may mix in south and west of the Capital Region, with a light glaze possible.
Statewide, travel impacts will stretch from the Mohawk Valley to the southern Adirondacks and into parts of western Massachusetts and southern Vermont. Roads including Interstate 87, Interstate 90 and Route 7 could turn snow-covered by the evening commute. Herkimer and Old Forge may see 3 to 4 inches, while Albany and Bennington could reach 4 to 6 inches before daybreak Thursday.

Snow will taper off before sunrise Thursday, but slick spots may linger into the morning commute. Additional advisories could be issued if snowfall rates increase.
