Tucson, Arizona – Valley rain and mountain snow are moving across Southeast Arizona Tuesday morning, impacting early travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, a cold front is bringing scattered rain showers to lower elevations and snow showers to elevations above 7,000 feet. Snowfall totals of 4 to 6 inches are possible near Hannagan Meadow, with lighter accumulations expected on Mt. Graham and Mt. Lemmon.

Forecast precipitation totals in valley areas, including Tucson, Sierra Vista, Benson, and Nogales, range from 0.01 to 0.10 inches. Higher totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches are possible near Globe and parts of Graham County. Areas near Clifton and Safford may see between 0.01 and 0.10 inches.

Interstate 10 between Tucson and Willcox and Interstate 19 near Nogales could experience wet roadways during the morning commute. Mountain routes, including highways leading to Mt. Lemmon and higher elevations along U.S. 191 near Hannagan Meadow, may encounter snow-covered or slick conditions.

Temperatures Tuesday afternoon are expected to run 4 to 8 degrees below normal behind the cold front, with skies gradually clearing from mostly cloudy to partly sunny.

Forecasters indicate precipitation chances decrease by afternoon as the system exits east. Most valley locations are expected to dry out by late day.

Students, commuters, and cross-border travelers should monitor changing road conditions through the morning hours, particularly in higher elevations.
