Green Bay, Wisconsin – A mix of snow, freezing rain, and rain could create hazardous travel across northern Wisconsin tonight into Wednesday morning.

According to the US National Weather Service in Green Bay, precipitation will develop this evening and continue through early Wednesday before tapering off. The greatest impacts are expected across northern Wisconsin, where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday through noon Wednesday.

Forecast snowfall totals range from 2 to 4 inches across north-central Wisconsin, including areas near Rhinelander along WI-17 and Wausau near US-51. Ice accumulations between 0.01 and 0.25 inches are possible in parts of the advisory area, including communities near Marinette along US-141 and areas north of Green Bay along US-41.

Farther south, precipitation may fall primarily as rain, limiting ice accumulation. However, forecasters warn that even minor icing can create slick roads, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces.

Motorists traveling along Interstate 43, US-41, and connecting highways should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions overnight and during the Wednesday morning commute. Slippery surfaces and reduced visibility are possible in heavier snow bands.

Officials also note the potential for isolated power outages where ice accumulation is highest.

Students, early-shift workers, and regional commuters should allow extra travel time and monitor updated road conditions before departing Wednesday morning.
