Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – Snow-covered roads are slowing drivers across northern Idaho early Tuesday, with slick conditions expected to impact the morning commute through at least 8 a.m. in the Coeur d’Alene area and 10 a.m. in the Central Panhandle Mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday for Post Falls, Hayden, Worley and Coeur d’Alene, where up to 1 inch of additional snow is possible. A separate advisory continues until 10 a.m. Tuesday for elevations above and below 3,000 feet across Shoshone, Lewis and southern Nez Perce counties, including Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Pass, Kellogg, Wallace and Kamiah.
Drivers crossing I-90 at Lookout Pass and Fourth of July Pass could encounter 1 to 3 inches of fresh snow above 3,000 feet, with 1 to 2 inches in lower valleys. Slippery pavement and reduced visibility may slow traffic along U.S. Highway 95 and State Highway 3, especially on bridges and overpasses.
Motorists should reduce speeds and allow extra stopping distance. For real-time road updates, Idaho Transportation Department officials urge travelers to call 511 before heading out.
Conditions should gradually improve late Tuesday morning as snowfall tapers, but shaded roadways may remain icy beyond the advisory window.
