New York drivers are easing through thick, gray air this morning as dense fog clings to Buffalo’s streets and the Thruway. Headlights glow well past midmorning, and visibility has dipped to a quarter mile at times. Wet pavement and low contrast are slowing traffic on I-90 and Route 33.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Visibility may drop quickly again in pockets of Erie County. Motorists should slow down, use low beams, and leave extra distance ahead.

Temperatures hover near 38 degrees today with mostly cloudy skies and a high around 39. A light southwest breeze develops this afternoon. Rain moves in by early Wednesday, with precipitation chances reaching 100% and highs near 38. New rainfall amounts could reach up to three-quarters of an inch.

By Wednesday night, colder air filters in. A rain and snow mix develops with lows near 29. Little accumulation is expected, but slushy patches may form on untreated roads. Thursday turns mostly cloudy near 40, then more rain arrives Friday with highs climbing to 46.

As temperatures fall back near freezing Friday night and Saturday night, watch for flash freezing on bridges and overpasses. Meltwater can refreeze quickly this time of year, especially after sunset. Snow showers remain possible through the weekend.

The 6–10 day outlook favors near- to above-normal temperatures across the Great Lakes into late February, hinting at gradual moderation after this wintry stretch.
