Buffalo, New York – Snow and mixed precipitation could create slick travel from the southern Lake Ontario shoreline to the North Country late tonight through Wednesday night.
According to the US National Weather Service in Buffalo, accumulating snow and a wintry mix — including sleet and freezing rain — are possible from the northern Finger Lakes through the Tug Hill region and into the western Adirondacks.
Forecasters project snowfall totals between 2 and 4 inches, with the highest amounts expected across Tug Hill and parts of the western Adirondacks. Ice accumulations of up to one-quarter inch are possible in areas that see prolonged freezing rain.
The mixed precipitation zone may shift north or south depending on storm track and temperature changes. Confidence remains low to moderate regarding exact placement of the heaviest snow and freezing rain.
Cities including Syracuse, Oswego, Watertown and Utica could see snow-covered or icy roadways Wednesday evening. Travel along Interstate 81, Interstate 90, NY-104 and surrounding secondary roads may become hazardous, particularly after sunset.
Communities closer to Buffalo and the immediate Lake Erie shoreline are more likely to see rain or minimal accumulation.
Evening commuters and school-related travel Wednesday night could be affected where freezing rain develops.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as precipitation types and amounts may change with minor shifts in temperature.
