Burlington, Vermont – A narrow band of snow could bring up to 6 inches to southern Vermont and the Adirondacks Wednesday evening, potentially impacting travel on major roadways.

According to the US National Weather Service in Burlington, snow will move west to east along a stalled boundary Wednesday afternoon through around midnight. Forecasters said snowfall amounts will vary sharply over short distances, with little accumulation expected across northern Vermont and northern New York.

Communities including Rutland, Manchester, Bennington and Glens Falls could see between 2 and 6 inches, while areas farther north such as Plattsburgh and Newport may receive less than 1 inch. The highest totals are currently projected near and south of U.S. Route 4, Interstate 91 and Interstate 87.

The Weather Service noted that snowfall amounts remain changeable, with the greatest uncertainty along the northern edge of the band. A slight shift in the storm track could move heavier totals farther north or south.

Earlier Wednesday, drizzle may occur in some areas, and where temperatures remain below freezing, glazed surfaces could develop before the steadier snow arrives.

Evening commuters along I-91, U.S. Route 7 and I-87 should prepare for reduced visibility and snow-covered roads, particularly during peak travel hours.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and allow extra travel time Wednesday night.
