Pueblo, Colorado – Wind gusts strong enough to topple trees and overturn high-profile vehicles will ramp up by 7 a.m. Tuesday, with peak gusts up to 85 mph expected across southern Colorado through 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a High Wind Warning remains in effect for much of central and southeast Colorado, including Pueblo, Trinidad, La Junta, Lamar, and Springfield, from 7 a.m. through 6 p.m. Tuesday. West winds will sustain at 30 to 40 mph on the plains with gusts reaching 65 mph. In the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Wet Mountains, southwest winds will intensify to 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 85 mph.

Colorado Springs and northern El Paso County remain under a High Wind Warning until 2 p.m., where gusts could hit 60 mph, especially near the Rampart Range and Black Forest early Tuesday.

Travel along Interstate 25, U.S. Highway 50, and Highway 160 may become hazardous, particularly for semis and RVs. Blowing dust across the Arkansas Valley and eastern plains could reduce visibility below one mile this afternoon.

Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid parking beneath trees, and prepare for isolated power outages. Winds are expected to weaken after sunset, but dangerous crosswinds will persist through the evening commute.
