Medford, Oregon – Travel across far northern California and southern Oregon will become hazardous by 4 a.m. Tuesday as steady snow spreads across Siskiyou, Modoc and Klamath counties ahead of the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 a.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Thursday for Central Siskiyou County, including Yreka, Weed, Hilt and the Klamath River area. Snow totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected in lower elevations, with 6 to 10 inches above 3,000 feet, including along Interstate 5 and Highways 97, 96 and 3. Forrest Mountain Summit could see heavier accumulation.

Advisories also cover the Klamath Basin, Modoc County and portions of Lake County. Communities including Klamath Falls, Alturas, Tulelake, Lakeview and Chemult may receive 2 to 6 inches, with 6 to 10 inches across higher terrain such as Cedar Pass and Warner Mountain Summit. Wind gusts up to 40 mph may create drifting snow and reduced visibility.

The heaviest snowfall is expected overnight into early Tuesday morning. Drivers should delay non-essential travel, carry chains and check Caltrans QuickMap or TripCheck before departing. Hazardous conditions will persist through Thursday morning.
