Glasgow, MT – Drivers across northeastern Montana should wrap up travel plans before 2 p.m. Tuesday as 55 mph wind gusts whip falling snow into whiteout conditions that could strand vehicles through Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Blizzard Warning is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday until 5 p.m. Wednesday for Sheridan, Daniels, Roosevelt, Valley, McCone and Northern Phillips counties. Communities including Glasgow, Wolf Point, Plentywood, Scobey, Circle and Culbertson fall within the warning area.

Forecasters expect up to 3 inches of snowfall, but the main threat comes from powerful winds gusting to 55 mph. Those winds will loft snow into the air, dropping visibility below a quarter mile at times and covering highways with drifting snow.

Roads across U.S. Highway 2, Montana Highway 13 and rural county routes may become slick and impassable, especially during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Strong winds could also damage trees and create isolated power disruptions.

Officials urge residents to restrict travel to emergencies only. If you must travel, carry a winter survival kit and stay inside your vehicle if stranded. Drivers can call 511 for the latest Montana road conditions.

Blizzard conditions are expected to persist until 5 p.m. Wednesday, and additional updates may follow as the system moves across the region.
