Spokane, Washington – Heavy snow showers could quickly reduce visibility along Interstate 90 Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, isolated to scattered heavy snow showers are expected to develop across eastern Washington and north Idaho between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday.
While confidence remains low on exact placement, forecasters say some communities could see localized bursts producing 1 to 2 inches of snow within an hour. These intense snow showers may create brief whiteout conditions and rapidly changing road conditions.
The primary concern includes corridors along Interstate 90 from Ritzville through Spokane and into Coeur d’Alene, as well as portions of U.S. Highway 195 near Pullman and U.S. 95 near Lewiston.
In addition to heavy snowfall rates, a flash freeze of road surfaces is possible as temperatures drop behind snow bands. Untreated pavement could quickly become icy, especially during the late afternoon commute.
The Weather Service advises drivers to reduce speed, stay alert for brake lights ahead, and avoid using cruise control in snow or icy conditions.
Because snow showers will be scattered, some neighborhoods may see little accumulation while others experience sudden hazardous travel.
Students, evening commuters, and freight traffic along I-90 should prepare for rapidly changing visibility and slick stretches during the 2-8 p.m. window.
