CASPER, Wyo. – Damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph will sweep across central and northern Wyoming overnight, threatening power lines and making travel dangerous through Tuesday evening. The strongest gusts could hit before sunrise and persist through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, multiple High Wind Warnings are in effect. Natrona County, including Casper, along with Green Mountains, Rattlesnake Range, and East Sweetwater County, face gusts up to 65 mph from 11 p.m. Monday until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Farther north and west, including Riverton, Lander, Buffalo, Cody, and the Bighorn Mountains, southwest winds of 35 to 45 mph will gust between 65 and 80 mph from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Wind River and Absaroka Mountains will also see heavy snow, with 10 to 18 inches possible in higher elevations, combined with severe blowing snow.

Downed trees and scattered power outages are likely. High-profile vehicles on Interstate 25, U.S. 20, and Wyoming Highway 789 may struggle in crosswinds. Residents should stay away from windows during peak winds and secure loose outdoor items. Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday evening, with improving conditions expected overnight.
