Memphis, Tennessee – Above-normal temperatures will continue through Friday across the Mid-South, with highs climbing into the 70s along the Interstate 40 corridor.

According to the US National Weather Service in Memphis, afternoon highs will run 10 to 20 degrees above seasonal averages through the workweek. Near-record warmth is possible Thursday as temperatures approach the mid to upper 70s in parts of West Tennessee, North Mississippi and East Arkansas.

Forecast highs include 74 to 77 degrees in Memphis by midweek, 77 degrees in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and up to 79 degrees in Tupelo, Mississippi. Jackson, Tennessee is expected to reach the lower 70s Wednesday, with similar readings in Oxford, Mississippi.

Dry conditions are expected to persist through Wednesday. Rain chances return Thursday, though probabilities remain limited at 20 to 30 percent.

Major travel routes including I-40 through Memphis and Jackson, US-63 near Jonesboro, and US-78 near Tupelo will experience unseasonably warm afternoon conditions.

While no hazardous weather is currently expected, the warmth may contribute to increased outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

The temperature swing may be especially relevant for students and commuters spending time outdoors this week.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service Memphis office as rain timing later in the week becomes clearer.
