Springfield, Illinois – Unseasonably mild temperatures in the 50s and 60s will continue through Thursday across central Illinois, with patchy fog late tonight and storm chances by midweek.
According to the US National Weather Service in Lincoln, daily highs will climb well above seasonal averages through Thursday. Tuesday highs are expected in the upper 50s to low 60s, followed by mid-60s to lower 70s on Wednesday. Overnight lows will range from the upper 30s to mid-50s.
Patchy fog is expected to redevelop late tonight, particularly along river valleys and low-lying areas near Interstate 55, Interstate 74 and Interstate 57 corridors. Visibility reductions may impact early Tuesday commuters before partial clearing develops.
Rain chances increase Tuesday night, with additional showers and isolated thunderstorms possible Thursday afternoon and evening. Thursday highs are forecast between 64 and 70 degrees before slightly cooler air moves in Friday, with highs ranging from the low 40s to low 50s.
Breezy southeast winds Tuesday will shift southwest Wednesday, contributing to the continued mild pattern. While severe weather is not currently indicated, isolated thunderstorms could produce brief downpours.
Drivers along I-55 near Springfield, I-74 near Peoria and I-57 near Champaign should monitor for changing visibility overnight and wet roads later in the week.
The fluctuating temperatures may be particularly relevant for students and workers planning outdoor activities during the spring-like stretch.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service Central Illinois office as rain and thunderstorm timing becomes clearer.
