McCall, Idaho – Drivers across southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon have just hours before snow and 55 mph wind gusts move in, threatening slick highways and reduced visibility through the Tuesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 8 p.m. tonight to 8 a.m. Tuesday for the West Central Mountains, Boise Mountains, Owyhee Mountains, Southwest Highlands and Camas Prairie in Idaho, as well as Malheur County, Oregon. Snow totals will range from 1 to 3 inches across Camas Prairie, 2 to 6 inches in the West Central and Boise mountains, and up to 3 to 5 inches in the Owyhee Mountains, with 6 to 12 inches possible above 6,000 feet. Winds may gust as high as 55 mph in exposed areas.
Blowing snow could sharply reduce visibility along Highway 55 near McCall and Cascade, U.S. 95 through the Owyhee Mountains, and rural routes near Fairfield and Grasmere. Bridges and overpasses will ice over first overnight.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check 511 for updated road conditions before traveling. Conditions are expected to improve after sunrise Tuesday, but slick spots may linger into midmorning.
